Darlene Jurow, Principal of Jurow Design Associates, uses cookie cutters only when she bakes. When she designs living and working environments, she translates her clients' dreams and aspirations into reality. The results are as distinctive as each clients' vision. From concept to completion, JDA offers viable options and solutions with respect for budget, time and style of living. Ms. Jurow firmly believes that creating a harmonious environment is an essential component of living well.

Specializing in residential and office design, the firm offers consultation and/or full design services. All jobs, regardless of size, receive 110%. JDA signature projects express a commitment to innovation and aesthetic function using cutting edge technology. With more than 30 years professional design experience, Ms. Jurows' background integrates a rich array of talent, qualifications and experience. While teaching college-level classes on interior design at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), San Francisco, she exposes a new generation of designers to traditional elegance and cutting edge resources. Ms. Jurow was educated at Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., followed by UCLA and New York School of Interior Design. In 2000, she studied Feng Shui at Nanjing University, China.

Ms. Jurow served as President of American Society of Interior Designers, Northern California , member of the ASID National SAC committee and member of the Board of Directors of TAC/deYoung Museum. She was selected as the only Californian to participate as a judge for the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC) Design Excellence Award Competition 2011. JDA was an honored participant in the S.F. Decorator Showcase House 2008 and 2009 and the Millennium Tower Showcase 2009.

Pacific Heights custom kitchen with aubergene &    metallic tile. This kitchen sports a dramatic view of the Palace of the Legion of Honor  and gives the client a charming spot to sit and sip morning coffee while enjoying the view.
 This Nob Hill kitchen was totally remodeled        accommodate granite countertops and coordinating glass tile backsplash reminiscent of fizzy root beer. The custom glass light fixture combines shards of colored glass and copper wire to compliment the exotic wood cabinets.  The eminination of hardware on the cabinets gives the kitchen a sleek appearance.

The Japanesque style bathroom highlights an antique Asian writing table modified to serve as a vanity, topped with a pewter vessel and wall mounted faucet. The deep, soaking tub and combination of greys, taupes and khakis add a very zen quality to this functional space.
 Hollywood Glam is reflected in the mirrored master bathroom with crystal fluted pendants, recessed lighting and Calacatta marble.
 Bronze, metallic tile is cut in 4 different shapes, creating a dramatic illusion; etched mirrored niche adds dimension to the oversized shower.
Hand-held shower and controls are within easy reach of the built-in bench trimmed with black textured mini tiles; Grab bar completes the Universal Design of this multi-functional shower.

Dining with grace and elegance
This Millennium Tower Showcase 2009 bedroom depicts an antique tansu chest  with a customized T.V. that turns into a smoky mirror when not in use. The  floating frame is a unique JDA design.
The beauty of this guest room is not only the chilling , evening view high above the San Francisco skyline, but the contrasting warmth and coziness of the room itself.  The walls are covered with a paper-pulp substance that is trowelled on by hand, giving a softness as well as sound protection to the room. The 'play-pen' bed is elevated off the floor to improve the viewing of the night sky and provides a soft and welcoming allure that is hard to resist.

Mirrored walls conceal additional storage accented by vintage lighting.
Radiant heating under marble floor warms feet on a cold morning. Shower body
sprays in two locations provide neck message while standing and lower back
message while sitting on the angled marble bench.

1920's glass and silver chandelier illuminates leather-colored walls along
with recessed pin hole lighting and wall sconces. Multi-level lighting sets

This beautiful kitchen is the result of a total remodel in a multi-million dollar Frank Lloyd Wright style home in the East Bay. The home was rebuilt after the 1991 Fire Storm but the kitchen remained 60's. Now, the update 2013 version incorporates a Lutron RA system controlling the automated shades and the 3 levels of lighting: fluorescent over the sink and work counter, incandescent in the middle of the room and LED wall-washer strips on top of the cabinets.
The soapstone countertops are designed to feature all rounded corners with a custom edge. the charcoal-colored porcelain tile flooring has a linen-look finish which provides low maintenance with high drama. Stainless steel tiles line the backsplash area, coordinating with the top-grade appliances.
At the end of the day, this carefully designed kitchen provides an area labeled Wine Time on the Lutron wall switch. The walls sport a collection of framed, original sheet music dating back to the 1920's.
